✅ 1. Introduction
- In English, Passive Voice is used when the focus is on the action or receiver of the action, not the doer.
- The Present Continuous Tense describes an action that is happening right now.
- When changed to passive voice, the focus shifts to what is being done.
📌 2. Structure
✅ Active Voice (Present Continuous)
Subject + is/am/are + V ing + Object
➡️ Example:
She is writing a letter.
🔄 Passive Voice (Present Continuous)
Object + is/am/are + being + V3 + by + subject
➡️ Example:
A letter is being written by her.
🧠 3. Rules for Conversion
- Identify the object of the active sentence.
- Use is/am/are according to the object (new subject).
- Add being.
- Use the past participle (V3) of the main verb.
- Add by + original subject (optional if not needed).
🔠 4. Examples
| Active Voice | Passive Voice |
| He is eating an apple. | An apple is being eaten by him. |
| They are watching a movie. | A movie is being watched by them. |
| I am reading a book. | A book is being read by me. |
| The chef is cooking dinner. | Dinner is being cooked by the chef. |

⚠️ 5. Important Notes
- Not all verbs can be converted into passive. Intransitive verbs (that do not take an object) cannot be used in passive voice.
❌ She is sleeping. → (No passive voice – no object)
- The agent (by whom the action is done) can be omitted if it’s not important or obvious.
✔️ A letter is being written. (We don’t need to say “by her” unless necessary)
🗣️ 6. Practice Sentences
Convert the following into passive voice:
- He is repairing the car.
